  • A: How long you spend on the Road to Hana depends on what you plan to do. If you're just going to drive with no stops, it takes approximately 3 hours from Lahaina. But what fun would that be? The best way to experience Hana and the road to get there is by stopping to savor the beautiful attractions along the way. Most Hana experts recommend that you join an organized van or helicopter tour to see it all in one day. However, if you want to go at your own pace, an overnight in Hana allows you to explore all the sights and sounds along the way at a leisurely pace.
  • A: To make the most of your time on the Road to Hana, it pays to pack a picnic breakfast and lunch to enjoy along the way. There are banana bread stands along the way where you can grab a smoothie and snack, too, but bring cash since that's all they accept. You'll also want to bring sturdy shoes if you plan to hike, and a few towels since brief, warm rain showers happen daily along the way. Make sure you fill your gas tank and charge your camera batteries, too. And don't forget the bug spray, since the mosquitos love all that lush scenery as much as tourists do.
